Restoration

  • 2023Root Canal at Mehr Clinic

Root canal therapy is a procedure to treat an infected or damaged nerve inside a tooth. The dentist removes the inflamed internal tissue, then cleans and seals the root canals. This treatment saves the natural tooth and prevents the infection from spreading. Afterward, the tooth typically needs a restoration and a crown to return to full function.
  • 2023Services Tailored for Your Child

At Mehr Clinic, services for your child are specialized and completely separate from adult care. This means children receive treatments designed specifically for them. For example, their root canal procedures and dental impressions are different from those performed on adults. As part of their treatment, we apply preventive materials to their teeth to protect against decay, which is common at a young age. This focus on prevention provides parents with peace of mind regarding their children's dental health.

  • 2021Dental Restoration at Mehr Clinic

When your tooth becomes decayed, the dentist treats it by removing the decayed and infected parts and then fills the tooth with special materials. Dental restoration is performed to prevent further damage to the tooth. By eliminating bacteria and sealing the affected area, further decay will not occur. Various types of restorative materials can be used to fill decayed teeth. The two most common restorative materials used for filling teeth are white-colored composite and silver-colored amalgam.

FAQ

1How do we know if our tooth needs root canal treatment?
You might feel severe pain when chewing food, or the tooth may react to heat and cold, and you might experience swelling and sensitivity around the gums, and even a draining abscess and discoloration (darkening) of the tooth.
2How long is there pain after a root canal?
When you have the treatment done, anesthesia is administered, so you do not feel pain at that moment. Feeling pain after a root canal treatment for between three to 28 days is completely normal.
3My tooth has become sensitive and I can't drink cold water or eat ice cream. Does it need a root canal?
Treating tooth sensitivity is sometimes technically simple. The most commonly recommended treatment is the use of anti-sensitivity toothpastes. Other treatments can also be performed on your teeth at the dental clinic to eliminate or reduce the sensitivity.
4What are Mehr's services for our children?
Our clinic offers key treatments to ensure your child's dental health. Fluoride Therapy strengthens tooth enamel to make it more resistant to cavities. Brushing Therapy (Prophylaxis) involves a professional cleaning to remove plaque and prevent decay. For infected baby teeth, we perform a Pulpectomy, a root canal procedure to save the tooth and preserve space for permanent teeth. To restore badly damaged teeth, we use durable SS Crowns (Stainless Steel Crowns). Finally, we apply Fissure Sealants, a protective coating on the chewing surfaces of molars to block out food and bacteria. These services work together to protect your child's smile.
5How long does it take after the initial surgery before we can place a crown?
It takes approximately 3 to 4 months.
6Why do I need a crown after a root canal?
When more than 50% of the tooth's wall is destroyed, the tooth must be crowned. This is because if you restore the tooth with a filling in this condition, there is a high probability that the filling material will fall out due to the lack of adequate wall support, requiring it to be restored again. It is worth noting that the longevity of a crown is much greater than that of a filling.
7What is the difference between a PFM and a PFZ crown?
(A PFM crown has a metal base, whereas a PFZ crown is all-ceramic with no metal used.) Relatively higher strength Biocompatibility and no allergies (Zirconium and its oxide are highly compatible with the human body, whereas a small number of people are allergic to the metal in conventional crowns). Esthetics (A PFZ crown is all-ceramic with no metal, so it does not cast a shadow, significantly enhancing the beauty of your smile).
8Do you also do digital crowns?
At Mehr Clinic, all crowns can be made fully digitally at the patient's request. If your crown is made digitally, it is fabricated with a zero margin of error and certainly takes less time than a traditionally made crown. (It is strongly recommended for patients with a gag reflex to have their crowns made digitally.)
9How long does it take for a restored tooth to heal?
Most people return to normal quickly, but you may have some sensitivity for the first few days.
10When is a dental restoration needed?
Tooth Decay: To fill a cavity that has formed in the tooth enamel but has not affected the tooth pulp, where the blood vessels and nerves are located. Damaged or Broken Teeth: Where the tooth enamel is damaged. To restore worn-down or abraded teeth.
11What is the best material for filling a tooth?
Front teeth, which are easily seen when smiling or laughing, will look more natural with composite fillings. For back teeth that have more decay, an amalgam filling will be a better choice due to its greater durability and longevity.
